Summers end: Week one In the Studio
With the first week of class over, it’s time to update the blog and start fresh on week one of the fall semester.
As many know, the first week of university classes are very administrative. Sorting everything out and getting everyone on the same page to ensure group success. It feels nice to see everyone’s face—returning and new—as we sat through a syllabus rundown.
After many weeks of an empty summer studio, I felt very inspired to be working alongside my classmates again. I found a tiny little bit of ‘curatorial’ joy in arranging everyone’s work in the display class in the building. I have some incognito plans to make boogie signage for it and play it off as a show of some sorts. after catching up, I worked on a painting (pictured below) and broke ground on a new sculpture. A continuation of the same form I made at the beginning of last semester. Fingers crossed that each itteration only gets better and better.
Work outside of the studio chugs along as normal. In fact, I’m very grateful for my current employment because I have access to great art supplies. This has allowed my experimentation through medium and color to flourish. Reaching into different pools of skill sets and materials has expanded what the works mean to me and pushes their concept.
I had a productive first week back in the ceramic studio and I’m excited for the semester. I think above all, IUS is a place to nurture myself and the fellow artists around me. Continuing to grow… 🌱
