After surviving the great snowstorm of 2025 and mostly enjoying my week long hibernation, I return to the studio once again. I’ve had a lot of time to rest and brainstorm over the holiday break; thinking about how to finish pieces that I started last semester. As well as new projects I have my sights set on.

It was good to see my peers, catch up with them, and see how their holiday breaks were. Exchanging ideas about what we saw ourselves doing this semester. I’m excited to see how everyone pulls their concepts into their ceramic space and how we can all continue to grow as artist. Though the only clay work I managed to get done were some goblets I was commissioned to make. Two down, theoretically eight more to go.

Beyond studio time I worked my normal hours at the art supply store, and I’ve been making a lot of music when I’m at home. For the last couple years, it’s been really important for my practice to have a ‘wet’ studio where I can explore ceramics and other messy mediums. While at home, I keep a ‘dry’ studio. A place for electronics, instruments, and sonic ideas.

So any time not in the wet studio, working, or nourishing my social life I’ve been affixed in my dry studio hammering away at keys and meticulously sculpting waves. Learning more and more about myself and where I want to push both my visual & sonic practice. All in an attempt to incorporate those designs into ceramic forms I’ve been developing over my last year at IUS.

This semester, I really hope to see my practices converge more. I’ve been tirelessly working for a year now to bring an idea to life. One where my ceramic objects can be shown alongside botanicals, possibly water features, and my sonic designs.

The first week for me is always about readjusting my headspace, solidifying plans, and visualizing the path forward. It’s a moment for me to reflect on the short term past. While embracing what is to come.

With the snow starting to melt. I am eagerly looking forward to spring. I know that any creative rut I find myself stuck in. I will eventually find my way out over time.
